Particle size reduction of materials in a ball mill with the presence of metallic balls or other media dates back to the late 1800's. The basic construction of a ball mill is a cylindrical container with journals at its axis. The cylinder is filled with grinding media (ceramic or metallic balls or rods), the product to be ground is added and ...

ball mill question

FWIW, there are vibratory mills suitable for dense media, but one built for brass and walnut hulls won't have the necessary force/power input to properly agitate dense media, unless you were to vastly under-load it. Part of the popularity of ball mills has to do with their relatively low horsepower requirements for a given-size load.

My modified ball mill using brass balls

Mix for 4 hours in the ballmill with brass media; 2. 75% potassium nitrate. 20% sulfur. Mix for 4 hours in the ballmill with brass media; 3. Mix the two compounds in the ballmill WITHOUT the brass media for an hour. Of course between the first and the second step the barrell and the medias must be carefully cleaned!

Ball Mill Static Problem

moof. I am currently constructing a ball mill and I noticed a potential safety issue. My design has a pvc drum sitting on top of 4 small caster wheels. The drum will have a belt around it which would be turned by a motor. Currently, I only have the wheels mounted and I spun the drum. I noticed a lot of static was being produced, it was enough ...

Finally got a ball mill, Tips?

You can only run one jar at a time, and it will use around 75 of those balls. The stock mill runs at around 60 rpm. 90 rpm is ideal for that diameter jar. Easily done by cutting a section of vinyl tubing (Home Depot etc, a buck or two), splitting it with a knife, and sliding it over the drive rod.

machining with ball end mills

A ball end mill has NO flute at the tip of the tool. This means there is no cutting going on at the tip. You can actually argue that the very tip of the ball does not spin at all. The best place to machine with a ball end mill is on the side of the radius, between the tangent point of the radius with the straight side of the tool, and the tip.

How safe is it to ball mill

As far as ball mill safety goes, the motor should be completely separated from the milling area, so that no powder can get to the motor. I also barricade my ball mill with a thick inner layer of Styro surrounded by an outer layer of concrete blocks. The least you can do is prepare for a potential accident.

Ball mill JARS

Posted October 26, 2020. The formula for critical RPM is 265.35/sqrt (mill ID - media diameter). Both the ID and diameter are in inches. This is the RPM that media will stick to the walls of the jar.
