Sorosilicates are silicate minerals consisting of double tetrahedral groups in which one oxygen atom is shared by two tetrahedrons. Cyclosilicates, in contrast, are arranged in rings made up of three, four, or six tetrahedral units. Inosilicates show a single-chain structure wherein each tetrahedron shares two oxygen atoms.

Rectorite is a representative of natural mica-smectite interstratified clay minerals. Its unique property based on a regular interstratification of dioctahedral mica-like (high charge, non-swelling) and smectite-like (low charge, expandable) layers in 1:1 ratio ( Brown and Weir, 1963 ) endows this material with exceptional properties that ...

In their paper, Zhang et al. (2009) report on a series of nanoindentation experiments on muscovite and rectorite, two clay minerals with very different interlayer structures.Their work raises a fundamental question regarding the mechanical definition of a single clay mineral. Furthermore, if such a definition is possible, is nanoindentation …
The results showed that the rectorite mineral suitably treated could substitute kaolin for synthesizing FCC catalysts. Moreover, we had shown that a hydrothermally stable ZSM-5/rectorite composite in which ZSM-5 crystals of ca. 2 μm in size were overgrown on preformed rectorite substrate could be synthesized using the rectorite mineral ...
Rectorite is a regularly interstratified clay mineral with alternate pairs of dioctahedral mica-like layer (nonexpansible) and dioctahedral montmorillonite-like layer (expansible) in 1:1 ratio.
Rectorite is a clay mineral which consists of alternating pairs of the non-expandable dioctahedral mica-like layer and expandable dioctahedral smectite layer in the ratio of …

Alternating mica-like and smectite-like layers of rectorite give rise to periodically varying contrast in 10-Å lattice fringes, yielding a periodicity of 20 Å in a transmission electron microscopic study. Expansion of rectorite using dodecylamine hydrochloride yields a three-layer repeat of thickness 32–35 Å, consisting of a basic 20-Å unit, identical to that in …

The rectorite, a regular mixed layer mineral consisting of dioctahedral swelling and non-swelling 2:1 layers, from North Little Rock, Arkansas, was studied to define the crystal chemistry and structural parameters (e.g. layer charge of the different layers, presence of cis/trans-vacancies). ... 7th Mid European Clay Conference, Dresden, Germany ...
Among all these clay materials, rectorite, as a regular clay mineral, has potential applications in many industries, as rectorite is widely distributed throughout China, especially in the Hubei Province of China [140]. It can absorb organic substances on its outer and inner surfaces through interaction or substitution [141]. So, for these ...
In our work, rectorite is a typical 1:1 clay mineral, but the behavior of RSA on DNA adsorption remains largely unknown. Herein, to explore the performance and mechanism of DNA adsorption over as-prepared RSA, the commonly studied calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was taken as a representative DNA. In this study, we critically discussed …
One such clay, dominantly rectorite, was bactericidal against 32 Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial pathogens, including antibiotic-resistant strains such as MRSA. The general antibacterial mechanism appears to involve reactions with soluble redox active trace metals (e.g., Fe 2+ ), and a significant role for Al 3+ is implicated in ...

Rectorite (allevardite) is a rather unusual interstratified clay made up of alternating nonexpansive dioctahedral micalike layers and the expansible montmorillonitelike layers in a 1 1 ratio 39 its layered structure is shown in Fig. 17. Rectorite is among clays seldom used in supporting TiO 2 based photocatalysts.

The rectorite clay bonded bricks achieve a larger CCS than the kaolin clay bonded samples. For the rectorite clay bonded samples, the CCS is in the order of RW-B>RD-B>R0-B, which indicates that wet grinding is more effective in improving the bonding strength. The RW-B sample achieves 35.0 MPa of CCS after drying.
Compared with raw rectorite microplatelets (RMs), rectorite nanosheets (RNs) have considerably greater application prospects in the preparation of advanced composite materials because of their larger aspect ratio, higher surface reactivity, and intrinsically superior mechanical and physical properties. However, the difficulty in the …
Zhang et al.'s nanoindentation results for rectorite, however, agree very well with the elastic content and hardness measured and inferred for the solid clay elementary building block of shale (Ortega et al., 2007, Bobko and Ulm, 2008). The crystal layers in rectorite could be expected to have similar values to the crystal layers in muscovite.
