In particular, as one of the constituents in Portland cement, gypsum plays a non-negligible role in the CBSC. Generally, gypsum itself does not have any cementitious properties. However, with the participation of clinker and metakaolin, it can react with calcium aluminate to form the acicular ettringite crystals (see Eq.

What is Gypsum | Why Gypsum Added to Cement | Uses of Gypsum …

Gypsum's function in cement. Gypsum is a key component in regulating how quickly cement hardens. During the final grinding stage of the cement-making process, a little amount of gypsum is added after the clinker has cooled. Cement is controlled by gypsum; without it, the cement will be set up too quickly to allow for the …

Production and use of by-product gypsum in the construction industry

The characteristics of blended binders produced with FGD gypsum and natural ground anhydrite used as reference are presented in Table 17 and Figure 18. The data for ordinary Portland cement used as a component of blends are also reported. The properties of FGD gypsum were given in a previous section.

Cement Board vs Gypsum Board: 8+ Key Differences

Gypsum boards are not strong enough to be used as flooring, but a cement board with a minimum thickness of 16 millimeters can withstand people walking on it repeatedly. Many contractors use cement boards as the base for tile floors. Noise Reduction. Between cement board and drywall, cement board provides the best noise …
